PR, 23rd Apr 2024: The Pakistan Hockey Team has been announced to participate in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. Muhammad Abdullah will lead the national hockey team while Muhammad Murtaza Yaqub has been appointed as the vice-captain. The National Hockey Selection Committee has selected the 20-member national hockey team after the final trials. President PHF Shehla Raza approved the Pakistan Hockey Team on the recommendations of the Selection Committee.
In the ongoing national hockey training camp at Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium, Karachi, the final trials for the selection of the Pakistan hockey team were held in which the players participating in the camp participated and showed their skills to the fullest. National Hockey Selection Committee Chairman Olympian Kaleemullah Khan, Selection Committee members Olympian Nasir Ali and Laeeq Lashari International watched the performance of the players. Chairman Selection Committee Olympian Kaleemullah Khan sent the recommendations of the selection committee along with Secretary General PHF Haider Hussain to President PHF Syeda Shehla Raza for final approval which President PHF Shehla Raza participated in the 30th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Malaysia. Pakistan hockey team participating in 30th Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup Malaysia Goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiaq Khan, Owais Rasheed Defenders Muhammad Abdullah (Captain), Saad Shafiq Ali Khan, Ehtesham Aslam, Muhammad Murtaza Yaqub (Vice-Captain), Umar Mustafa, Arbaaz Ayaz, Samiullah, Arshad Liaquat, Abdul Rehman, Abdul Wahab, Muhammad Arsalan, Abdul Qayyum, Bilal Akram, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, Sikandar Ali Zakir, Taimur Javed Khan, Owais Arshad and Abdul Wajid are included.
The standby players of Pakistan Hockey Team include Abdullah Sheikh, Bilal Khan, Aamir Sohail, Muhammad Amjad Ali, Saad Zaheer, Khizr Akhtar and Babar Sadat.
Olympian Shahnaz Sheikh will be the manager of Pakistan hockey team while the coaches panel includes Olympian Ayaz Mehmood, Olympian Waseem Firoz, Olympian Rehan Butt, Olympian Mohammad Saqlain, Olympian Dilawar Hussain, Imran Butt International goalkeeper coach.
Pakistan hockey team will arrive in Malaysia from Pakistan on May 2 where they will participate in light practice session on May 2 and 3 while on May 4 Pakistan will play their first match against Mirban team Malaysia at 8:30 pm local time, 5 On May, Pakistan will face Korea at 6:15 PM local time. After a day’s rest, Pakistan hockey team will play against Japan on May 7 at 6:15 pm while on May 8 Pakistan will play against Canada at 4:00 pm local time. After a day’s rest, Pakistan hockey team will play their last pool match against New Zealand on May 10 at 4:00 PM.
The Malaysian Hockey Confederation has confirmed the practice schedule, meeting session booking, and other travel and accommodation arrangements given by the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The national hockey squad will leave from Karachi on May 2
