PR, 22nd Jul 2024: Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who served as bowling coach of the Pakistan team in 2023, is poised to join India’s coaching panel.
This news comes as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reshapes its coaching staff under new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir’s support staff is expected to be confirmed soon, with one member from the previous regime likely to be retained for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka next week.
Earlier this month, the BCCI appointed Gambhir as head coach, succeeding Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in June.
Joining Gambhir’s coaching team are Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who previously collaborated with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024. Morkel is set to take on the role of bowling coach, while T Dilip will continue as the fielding coach.
Ten Doeschate is on franchise league duty with the LA Knight Riders in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) and is expected to join the team directly in Colombo.
Gambhir and his men are scheduled to depart for Sri Lanka on, July 22, for a series of six white-ball matches. India’s squad for the series was announced earlier this week, with Rohit Sharma leading the ODI side and Suryakumar Yadav captaining the T20I team.
