Web Desk, 5th Feb 2023: Peshawar Zalmi speedster Wahab Riaz believes that a bowler should be aware of his strength and weaknesses, especially in T20 cricket.
The left-armer remains the only bowler in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to reach the 100-wicket landmark, when he bagged the scalp of Islamabad United batter Danish Aziz last year.
The 37-year-old is also the most capped player in the league with 77 appearances and has donned Zalmi colours across all seven seasons.
Speaking ahead of PSL 8, Riaz added that important lessons can be learned by playing regular matches.
“As a bowler, you should be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. You should know how to bowl according to each phase of the innings. The more matches you play and the more experience you gain, you learn important lessons with the exposure,” Riaz told PCB Digital.
“I keep things very simple in T20s. It is necessary you realise that batters will attack and you can go for runs, but you need to trust the process and not forget the basics,” he added.
Riaz conceded 47 runs in four overs during an exhibition match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar on Sunday in Quetta. He was also smacked for six sixes in the final over of the innings by Iftikhar Ahmed.
It must be noted that Babar Azam, who joined the franchise after leaving Karachi Kings, has replaced Riaz as Zalmi’s captain for season eight of PSL.
The opening ceremony of PSL 8 will be held in Multan on February 13 prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars; meanwhile the closing ceremony and final will be played on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
Lahore Qalandars will attempt to become the first side to win back-to-back titles; meanwhile Islamabad United will aim to become the most successful side by lifting the trophy thrice.
Rawalpindi will stage 11 fixtures, Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each, whereas Multan will have five home games.
