LAHORE, 3rd Jul 2024: Aram Bagh Club emerged victorious against Usman Club with a 5-point margin in an intense overtime match to win the boys’ basketball event at the Commissioner Karachi Sports Festival. Held at the Aram Bagh Basketball Court in Karachi, the game concluded with a score of 46-41 after regular time ended in a 39-39 tie. Hasan Ali led the winning team with 14 points, supported by Abdul Samad with 13 points, Mustafa-ul-Haq with 10 points, and Abdullah Imam with 6 points. For Usman Club, Hamza Khawaja scored 10 points before an injury forced him to leave the court, while Mubarez Ahmed and Usman Khawaja each contributed 8 points, and Zarrad added 6 points.
The match was officiated by referees Zahid Malik, Amir Sharif, and Muhammad Ashraf, with Zaeema Khatoon, Muhammad Daniyal, and Muhammad Zaid serving as technical officials. Hasan Ali was named the tournament’s best player, and Haris Shahid received recognition as the emerging player.
During the award ceremony, Additional Commissioner Karachi Syed Ghulam Mehdi Shah presented prizes to the participants. The event saw notable attendees including the festival’s organizing secretary Ghulam Muhammad Khan, SOA Secretary Ahmad Ali Rajput, POA Media Coordinator Asif Azeem, Junaid Sami, Naima Brohi, Sher Khan, and others. Prizes worth Rs 75,000, along with trophies, shields, certificates, and medals, were distributed among players and officials.
In a separate recognition, Commissioner Karachi Hasan Naqvi awarded the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medal of Excellence to KMA Girls College DPE Talat Idris for her significant contributions to promoting basketball. The Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed Award was also presented to Haji Muhammad Ashraf Yahya and Zaeema Khatoon for their successful organization of the boys’ and girls’ basketball events.
