LAHORE, 9th Jul 2024: Pakistan’s Muhammad Ashab Irfan secured his second tour title with a thrilling victory over India’s Veer Chotrani at the Kanso Men Open Presented by Houston Squash Club on Sunday. Irfan’s journey to the final saw him defeating Jorge Luis Gomez Dominguez and Liam Marrison in the quarterfinal and semifinal matches, respectively.
Chotrani, the National Collegiate Men’s Individual champion, aimed to cap off a breakthrough year on the PSA Tour with his fourth title of the season. However, Irfan, benefiting from strong home support at the Houston Squash Club where he regularly trains, took the lead by winning the first game 11-7.
Despite dropping the second game 11-7, Irfan bounced back to win a tight third-game tiebreak, 13-11. Chotrani, seeded No.4, forced a decider by clinching the fourth game 11-8. The final game saw a dramatic finish as Chotrani’s backhand serve return hit the tin at 10-8, giving Irfan the victory.
This win marks Irfan’s second tour title and his second triumph in a 9k tournament, following his success at the Rochester ProAm in April.
